How much does a website cost in Switzerland in 2024? In order to set a suitable budget, companies need an answer to this question.
That is why I have the prices of 36 Swiss web design agencies compared in detail and summarized in two parts in this blog post.
In the first part, we'll look at the exact prices using various website examples. In the second part, we will look at the various cost factors of a website and how they come about.
We are also looking into the questions of why most agencies do not make their prices public and why there are such big cost differences when creating a website.
My goal is to give you a better understanding of Website pricing to give.
The short answer to: How much does a website cost in Switzerland?
According to my analysis of 36 Swiss web agencies, the Hourly rates between CHF 120 and CHF 250. Onepagers are available from CHF 500, simple websites for small businesses with up to 10 pages are available from CHF 900, more complex websites, tailored to the company's target group, are available from CHF 7,500 and web platforms are available from CHF 30,000. Companies spend from 25 to 250 CHF per month on maintaining a simple to complex website.
To obtain the data for the study, I used Google search with the keyword”Swiss web agency” Analyzed the 100 top-ranked web agencies on Google.
In addition, I went through two agency directories and found 61 more agencies. From a total of 161 agencies analysed, I was able to derive specific prices from 36.
Most web agencies did not provide prices, which is due to the fact that the cost of a website depends on many factors (see below).
Some agencies have hidden their hourly rates in the terms and conditions and other sub-pages. I was able to find the hourly rates using Google search:”site:example-agentur.ch CHF” and “site:bespiel-agentur.ch hourly rate“find out.
Nevertheless, the question of the costs of a website cannot be answered in general, because it is roughly the same as the question: How much does a house cost?
The price of a house also depends on numerous factors such as location, square meters and equipment and can therefore not be answered in a general way. However, similar properties can be compared, such as an apartment with 3.5 rooms or a house with 6 rooms.
The initial situation is similar for a website. There are numerous factors, such as:
- Number of pages (one-pager, 10 pages or 1,000 pages?)
- Features (booking tools, calendar integration, newsletter)
- interfaces (CRM, ERP, etc.)
- Content (write it yourself or have it created)
- Photos and videos (stock photos, professional photo shoot, number of photos)
- Design (motion design, 3D design, graphic design)
- CMS (WordPress, Webflow, Framer, TYPO3, etc.)
all of which have a direct impact on the costs of a website.
However, creating a website in Switzerland has probably never been more affordable than in 2024, thanks to novel technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), which have made creating websites and content much more efficient.

Understanding the cost factors of websites
Why is the price range so wide for many websites?
To understand why there is such a price range for individual web offers, you must first understand the cost factors of websites.
The main cost factors include the current state of the website, the desired marketing goals, the functional and interface requirements, as well as the size of the website and the time horizon by which the project is to be implemented.
I will look at the cost effects of these factors in more detail below.
But before that, it is important to explain the two basic service models of web agencies.
Service models from web agencies
Web agencies are similar to SEO agencies. In principle, services can be divided into two categories. Namely, productized and individual website services.
What is the difference?
Standardized services
Standardized services are often the less expensive option. These are standardized website templates that cover basic needs.
Standardised web offerings include a defined range of services:
Here are a few examples:
- Onepager templates
- Simple website templates
In general, almost all websites can also be created with a template. This also results in the large price range of CHF 900 and CHF 6400 for a simple company website.
For less than CHF 5,000, you will most likely get a template that is adapted to the respective corporate design.
BUT... standardized web offerings are not suitable for every company. Why
The short answer: because standard packages are not tailored to the target group and requirements of the respective company.
Here are a few examples from my previous web projects which services individual web projects can include:
- Sports retailer website with a dynamic retailer search of 200 retailers at several locations in Switzerland
- Online shop with over 2,000 products, integration with ERP, online payments and accounting system
- Restaurant website, design coordinated with the interior design of the restaurant including the design of the menu card
This type of individual service model is ideal for medium to large companies
Here is the example of a sports retailer with a dynamic retailer search.
Your starting position and goals for a website
Before we can start a web project, the following points must be clarified:
- Current state of your website: What does your website currently look like? What interfaces and functions are there? Has the domain been re-indexed or has it been active for several years? Are there any technical errors in the code or is the website technically flawless?
- Marketing goals: What marketing goals are you pursuing with your website? Would you like to be found regionally or nationally? It is important to define clear goals right from the start.
- Features and requirements: Which functions are required? Do you need an online booking function? Should the website be available in multiple languages? What are your content management system requirements? How many pages do you need? Are new pictures needed and should they be taken in a professional photo shoot?
- time horizon: By when should the project be implemented?
- Check internal resources: What internal resources are available to implement the web project? Do you write the texts yourself or do you have someone in your company who writes the texts? There is also communication, is there someone who takes care of the web project as a contact person?
All of these factors influence not only costs but also the way a website is built.
A more in-depth web audit makes it possible to make an initial budget estimate and find a suitable offer (one-pager, simple website, complex website).
My team and I offer a web audit in 500 CHF free of charge.

The general cost factors of a website
The costs of a website are generally incurred in three main areas.
These include:
- Infrastructure & fixed costs - also known as “backend”. These include everything needed to make the website work technically, such as server hosting, the domain and the software on which the website is built.
- Design and functionality - also known as “frontend”. These are responsible for the appearance of the website and offer the interactions that visitors carry out through the website.
- commercialization - This includes search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine advertising (SEA) as well as other marketing channels so that the website is found by your potential customers.
What are the infrastructure costs of a website?
Server hosting costs
Hosting is basically the rent (house comparison) that must be paid so that you get a place on a computer (server) in order to be able to operate your website. With website builders such as Jimdo, Wix or Squarespace Is the price for server hosting already included.
If you use a content management system (CMS) such as WordPress, you must buy your own hosting or the web agency must do this for you in order to be able to install the software.
Although this costs more, it also offers advantages, because the server can be expanded accordingly as your company expands. You can also benefit from the flexibility of having your own hosting.
This allows your web agency to make specific changes to the server so that your website runs faster.
The prices for the web hosting For a company website (with 1 to 20 pages, without database integration and without e-commerce function) amount to between 150 to 200 CHF per year.
Depending on the scope and requirements of the website, server costs can account for a considerable part of running costs. For example, the costs for an online shop (with +1,000 products) range from 1,000 CHF to several 10,000 CHF per year.
Domain costs
The domain is the address with which a website is found on the Internet. So is beyondweb.ch the name of our domain. This can be done with a domain registration authority, such as Infomaniak, be bought.
The exact costs depend on the respective domain extension, such as “.ch” or “.com”. This is how much a”.ch” Average domain between 10 to 15 CHF, a”.com” domain between 10 to 20 CHF.
In addition, special domain extensions such as “.restaurant”, “.app” or “.gmbh” be bought. These are usually more expensive than standard endings and cost between 30 to 100 CHF, Some domains can even cost over 1,000 CHF.
Contracts are usually concluded with registration authorities for one year. Some providers also offer a discount if the domain name is purchased for several years.
Software costs
Nowadays, most websites are no longer programmed from scratch, but are set up using software, a so-called content management system (CMS).
There are various CMS systems, the most well-known is. Since 2024 More than 42.7% of all websites in the world run on WordPress.
WordPress is so popular thanks to its open-source strategy. Open source means that the program is for everyone gratuitous is available and the operator is allowed to further develop his website for his purposes.
For example, millions of plug-ins and other software extensions have been developed on the basis of WordPress, which are constantly being improved. Thanks to this large and active community, WordPress is never in danger of becoming obsolete.
WordPress can also be used to create any type of website. Simple blogs to huge and extensive e-commerce websites are feasible. Some of the most famous companies that use WordPress, are Walt Disney, The New York Times, Mercedes Benz and also the TV channel SKY.
This means that there are no limits to your website!
How much does the design and functions of a WordPress website cost?
Once the domain is available, the server hosting is set up and the content management system (CMS) is installed, you can start designing your website.
design
There are several design methods for a new website and therefore different prices. If you want a website on WordPress, the costs vary depending on whether you use a ready-made website template, an adapted template or a completely reprogrammed website.
Each variant has advantages and disadvantages and also differs in terms of cost. If you set up a website yourself, then you can create a Design template Buy from just CHF 60.
However, you then also have to adapt the template to the corporate design of your company and often add new elements. In addition, there is the entire technical implementation and installation of plugins.
Templates can also be designed and tailored specifically to your needs. If you like a specific template, then a web designer or web agency can customize the code individually. With an average hourly rate of 166 CHF in the Swiss web industry, you can expect 1,000 to 6,000 CHF for such changes.
Top of the top, however, are the completely individually designed websites. Such complex, complex websites require several hundred working hours to develop — depending on their design and functionality. For this reason, you have to reckon with costs starting at 7,500 CHF.
In addition, a WordPress builder plugin such as Elementor Help you further improve your design with drag-and-drop visual editing. With Elementor, you get the opportunity to make changes to the web design easily and quickly, even without technical know-how.
Elementor is available both as a free version and as a premium version starting at 50 CHF per year.
However, Elementor is not compatible with all templates. A professional web designer is also needed, as complex design changes can only be implemented with programming knowledge.
functionality
Functionality is probably the hardest thing to assess in terms of cost. Because the costs depend heavily on your company and its needs.
There are various types of websites that cover different functionalities. Several functionalities are often mixed on a website.
What does it look like with you? Do you need an interactive contact form? An online booking tool? A blog? Ultra-fast load times? A multilingual website? An online shop? Or even all of them together?
No problem! All functions can be implemented comparatively inexpensively using so-called plugins in Wordpress. This is one of the strengths of WordPress, because open source There are now over 58,000 plugins developed and available!
Many of these plugins are gratuitous, but some premium plugins are also required. The costs are therefore difficult to estimate and can CHF 50 to several CHF 100 per year enough.
How much does it cost to market a professional website?
After creating and launching your website, there is one last step: marketing. In order to fully benefit from a new website, your company must be able to be found on Google accordingly. Otherwise, your website will only utilize a fraction of its potential.
For better findability, your website must be search engine optimized. However, search engine optimization (SEO) can be costly when done correctly. SEO is suitable for companies with long-term planning and strategy.
SEO must be edited regularly, i.e. daily/weekly. For example, many SEO agencies offer services with a minimum term of 6 months. Since Google's algorithm only very slowly classifies new websites as “important,” it can take several months before SEO results become visible.
Especially in the area of SEO, it is important not to fall for empty promises from agencies. No reputable SEO agency can catapult your website to number 1 in Google search queries within a few weeks.
Loud our latest statistics on SEO costs, a complete SEO service costs around 1,000 CHF per month. Local SEO starts at 470 CHF per month, SEO audits from CHF 790 and SEO workshops from CHF 750.
For SEO to work, you need to regularly create high-quality content and optimize that SEO. According to a study, around 55 to 70 articles are neededuntil the effects of higher visitor numbers are apparent.
The prices for SEO offers may seem high, but it is still worthwhile to optimize your own website for Google. Around 28% of all clicks on Google account for 1st place in the Google ranking, 16% in 2nd place and 11% in 3rd place
Another frequently used marketing method for websites is called pay-per-click (PPC). As with search engine optimization, this strategy increases the visibility of the website on Google.
But not in organic search, but by placing advertisements that you can design yourself.
synopsis
As it turns out, the costs of having your own website can be very different for every company. The size, scope, functionality and design requirements, complexity, individual needs and goals of a company are ultimately decisive for the total costs.
A high-quality website requires time and expertise in various areas (IT, design and marketing).
Prices may also differ depending on the web agency and the effort required to implement the website.
